Mary
Browne
Mary’s family lived in Greenwich for many years, and she attended Greenwich schools before going to college in Washington, D.C. She later earned a master’s degree in organizational psychology from Columbia University. Her early career at the U.S. Department of Labor focused on public service -- employment protections for farmworkers, summer youth employment programs and transition services for displaced workers. She moved on to open and run her own Vermont inn and restaurant. For the last 25 years she worked for nonprofit credentialing organizations managing the assessment process for medical professionals as they attained licensure and certification. She frequently contributed as a volunteer during her credentialing career and chaired the industry’s premier conference. However, she will tell you that her favorite job was her post-retirement work as a tram driver and tour guide at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Two years ago, Mary returned to Greenwich, drawn by all the community has to offer. She is an active volunteer, serving as a tutor for the United Way’s Reading Champions program, as Secretary of The Nathaniel Witherell (TNW) Family Council, as a volunteer at TNW and at the Greenwich Library. Since returning, she has also been an engaged member of the Greenwich League of Women Voters, contributing to social media efforts and voter registration drives. She has been a poll worker in Cook County, Illinois and in Greenwich. Mary is deeply committed to the exercise of the right to vote and to fostering an informed electorate.

In her free time, she enjoys playing bridge, learning Italian, practicing Pilates, doing water aerobics, and walking in Greenwich’s many beautiful parks.
